My 5 month old has just recently started shaking his head from side to side (like he's saying no) he seems to do it alot when he's tired, but then he also does it during the day and he thinks it's funny. He is doing it so much that he has worn a big bald spot on the back of his head, it looks like I took the scissors and cut his hair! Any thoughts or experiences?

How cute! It's normal for a child to do that. They are just going through a development that will help them later on during their growth. Your child has finally discovered how to move his body part which is his head. He keeps doing it consecutively because it's interesting to him. It's hard to understand what your child wants during their infancy stage. But don't worry, your child seems perfectly healthy to me. ^_^

This is just the baby hair coming out (the bald spot) it is completely normal and it will grow back.
As for shaking his head, well, there aren't many things he has been able to do in his life, and now that he has found he can control his movement to do this, well- he is going to have fun doing this!
Don't worry, it's all natural and normal. There is nothing wrong with your son.

My baby is seven weeks old and last night she was doing the same thing it worried me a lot actually. She shaked it side to side for like 30 seconds and would have kept doing it had i not stopped it.

Thats too funny! My daughter does the exact same thing! But she does it when she is tired and wants to comfort herself to sleep, usually she wants her nose rubbed when she is tired so moving her head from side to side is her way of trying to rub her nose on something and also a way for her to rock herself to sleep when i cant hold her, i watch her do it all the time, she constantly rubs her nose on something and two minutes later she is fast asleep. I think its just a comfort thing and my doctor has not siad anything bad although as a mother of a little girl, i really owrry about the bald spot on her head more than the rocking!!!!!

I am guessing he is saying no-no. Both of my children did it. Unless he would have an ear infection, that is possible too. But after i figured out my son was just saying no-no, i laughed for days. i was so sure he was sick with ear infection. His ped dr said it happens a lot. Usually if you are shaking your head to him when you say no-no.
Keep an eye out though for any other symptoms, or pulling on the ears. otherwise, have a good laugh at his new skill!!!

(my son would do it at weird times to, like diaper changes and when music came on)

My kids did this as well. At first they did it when they were tired and then they did it because they thought it was funny. It is perfectly normal. If you don't like this behavior then ignore it. If they don't get a reaction from you then it should stop.

He is old enough to be able top see across the room, so he is likes seeing things fly by his eyes, it might be the same thing when you lay him down to sleep if there is something hanging over his crib... either way it is nothing to worry about, and congrats on the new born.

Could be an ear infection, could be that he likes the "dizzy" feeling he gets, could be that he thinks it's funny, could be he is trying to fight off sleep, could be a ringing in his ears, could be a loud noise that bothers him. Could be anything.
