On TV I have trouble seeing the puck,so I can't follow the game. I don't mind being at a live game. I am interested in a man who has a hockey family. Even a retired NHL player for a brother-in-law. So if I want to be part of that I need to become more hockey aware. Just wishful thinking maybe, but.....

I recommend watching Buffalo Sabres games on MSG or listening to them on the team website. The announcers (Rick Jeanerette and Jim Lorentz) are ex-Sabres and they are, in my opinion, the best announcing team out there. They explain plays, positions, and rules and call the game instead of going on and on with the "man-gossip" that the announcers on the other channels constantly employ. Also, why don't you ask that guy you're so interested in to go to a game with you and explain things? It doesn't have to be NHL (cuz let's face it, tickets are expensive!) I go to college games all the time (GO OSU LAKERS!) for less than five bucks a game, and the rules are pretty much the same. Most of all, learn to enjoy it! My mom got me interested in hockey when the Sabres made their cup run in 1999, and I've been an avid fan ever since!

I would suggest that if you have some kind of liking for the game then you should go to more games even if it is just your local minor league team, which is probably alot of fun also. The more games that you go to and the more you understand, I think the more you will like it.
Also maybe try getting a book out from the library or looking it up on-line, so that maybe you can get a better perception of the rules and how the game is played.

I am a hockey guru.... seriously..I adore the sport..I can answer any question you want...but the key part is to go to games live....and show some enthusiasm when you get there. There's simply no substitute for seeing a game in person...hockey more than any other sport. . The good news is that the rules are rather simple to learn and they're aren't many of them.
another fun thing to do is, if you like video games, buy one of the hockey games... thye are fun as hell, and all the players on all the teams are listed. as you play you can learn about the game and the players....what their strengths are etc...and soon you'll get to see them play in real life. email me if you have any questions.

My boyfriend is a huge hockey fan and he played goalie growing up, and I grew up in Arkansas, where hockey was not a big thing at all. So when we started dating, I, of course, became a huge hockey fan as well. He got me this book called "The Girlfriend's Guide to Hockey." It's written by Teena & Bruce Spencer & Will Ferguson (You can find it on Amazon.com). It has chapters on the history of hockey, rules, penalties, players, etc. It really helped me to understand more about the game, which, in turn, helped me to enjoy the game a lot more. Also it has a lot of history about the game and about past players as well - I was even impressing my boyfriend with my newfound hockey knowledge!

Go to a game. It should be to hard to find the puck. Thats what the camera man foolws.But watch lots of hockey games. Listen to the play by play speaker. Go to nhl.com. That site will help you out.

Look up related information on the internet and most of all WATCH GAMES it will all come intime,including the puck.
{Pick a team}You need a team!!! or find out what team he likes and watch everygame you can!!By a hat or shirt with the Nhl or your team logo,Hockey fans like that stuff.

You'll be given a team of players to follow. Depending on how they do, they are given points accordingly. Doing this will allow you to feel a connection with certain players. Following this, you'll pick up who is good and who isn't so much, that way, when you're at a game or watching one on tv, you will know some names to root for.

WHEN YOU ARE WATCHING THE GAME FOLLOW THE GUY WITH THE PUCK OR THE GUY THE CAMERA IS ON HE IS USUALLY THE GUY WITH THE PUCK.
