You can't. Linear feet is a measurement of length, square yards is a unit of area (length x width). Its apples and oranges

Square Yards To Linear Feet

Can't be done with this information, because linear feet do not imply a second dimension, which would be needed to calculate the area. If you know how wide the linear feet (of lumber I'd assume) are, you could then use

9 square feet = 1 square yard

To figure the square feet, take (# of linear feet * width) and
pay attention to the units (i.e if the width is in inches, convert it to a fraction of a foot).

You can not convert linear feet into square yards. Linear feet only account for how much length of space you will occupy and not the actual area required. You would need to multiply your linear feet by the width to get square feet. Than you would multiply your square feet by .111

example: 10 linear feet 10 feet wide = 100 square feet.
100 x .111 = 11.10 square yards.

It can be done so long as you know the width of whatever you are converting. At the plant I work at we use rolls of paper measured in linear feet when they are produced, but when we input the production of these rolls into our database we use square yards (easier to manage). The formula is ((f/3)*(w/36))/1000=sq yds
f=linear feet w=width. So what you end up doing is dividing the linear feet by 3 to get the yards, then divide your width by 36 and multiply that with your yards and divide by 1000 and you have your square yards.

there is no convert ion from linear feet to square yards--but if you have an area and you multiply the length times the width (LXW) this answer is then in square feet. If you want to convert that answer to square yards you divide that square feet answer by 9 this will give you square yards. If you are buying carpet you can take this number to the store and figure the price of the carpet by multiplying the cost of carpet by your answser because carpet is usually bought by the yard(square yard).happy shopping length x width divided by nine is the formula. You get the nine from figuring one square yard is 3 feet by 3 feet again multiplying 3 x3 = 9 sqaure feet so there is 9 square feet in one square yard.

Assuming that you mean you know the dimensions of something in feet and you need to find an area in square yards, what you'd first do is change each length to yards (divide the feet by 3). Then you'd multiply length by width (or use other area formulas) to find your area in square yards.
