sounds like the battery needs recharging or replacing
or you could be useing it on a surface that does not refelect the light this would cause this problem

As above, also is it an infra-red one.
If so, they do not work well on shiny surfaces, try the back of a note pad, or an infra-red mouse mat.

Seems like the circuit is bunged up or a loose connection internally. I banging the mouse on the desk a few times. Please dont bang it too hard......

have you tried changing the batteries? Also you may need to reset it with the receiver.
