I say you are an adult when you get a job, move out and pay your own bills. You can be 40 and still be living at home and your parents paying your bills and that hardly makes you an adult.
Is there anyone out there that agrees with me or does 16 to 18 automatically make you an adult?

adults take care of them selves like have a job, a place to live and have groceries in the refridgerator ( not just beer), and they can be counted on by others

Well with that thinking an adult could be 12 - 15 years old just because they have a job? Teens can make great cash meowing, babysitting, and even working part time jobs.
I think 18 makes you an adult because thats when the law gives you those freedoms. If their parents are paying for them after that, that is their business and there might be a good reason behind it. I mean what if someone is disabled and can't work does that mean they should loose their freedoms of being an adult? John Doe is handicapped but suddenly he can't buy porno magazines because he's not an "adult". That's just crazy.

It really depends on what you consider an adult. I have some friends who think being an adult is at the age of 21 so they can drink and gamble legally. Me personally, I agree with your opinion. Being an adult means taking on the responsibilities of one. My mom had me paying my own bills with the exception of living with her at the age of 16 when I started working, and it was probably the best thing she ever did for me because when I moved out at 18 I was ready for the real world.

well the law says 18...but, you're right I actually know some 30 to 40 year olds who don't appear to be adults to me, and as a matter of fact they own homes pay their own bills and have children of their own...so I guess that stuff doesn't exactly make you an adult either. My personal feelings is that adulthood comes when you can satnd on your own and you know the definition of integrity through experience. And you are willing to stand in a room full of people who feel differently then you and still stand firm to your own beliefs...when you acheive that, then you are truly an adult

Personally I think your an adult when you grow so much in knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual maturity that you don't care about what the world says because you know where you stand and you won't waver from attacks or ordeals because you only care about helping others and showing them the light because your heart is your strongest and most honed part of you. But for things like marriage, voting, and some jobs society decides.

Responsibility. You are an adult when you start to take responsibility for your own life. You own up to the mistakes you made, and you try to improve yourself. Age doesn’t matter much, hopefully one becomes an adult as they get older, but that is necessarily true. Also you could become an adult very young. Age is just an easy bench mark

that's actual... at 18 you're legally an grownup, and can be interior the militia and die to your united states... yet in quite some places you are able to no longer drink or smoke till you're 21. that's a serious disconnect. I propose which you hit a number of the state or county regulation web content online or hit the interior reach library for some criminal references which you would be able to xerox and take lower back to tutor your parents.

18 is for the law. I agree with you. a 16 y/o taking care of business is more of a MATURE person than your 40 mooch.

You are an adult when you realize that all your actions and decision matters and is your responsibility for it. This usually doesn't happen before a certain age.
