Let's give homosexuals the benefit of the doubt and say for the moment that homosexuality truly IS genetic, and not deriving from confusion of gender roles or alternative upbringing as is commonly believed by most straights. As a sexual species, mutation is the key to our evolution, but sometimes people are born with mutations that would-be sexual mates try to veer away from to pass on to their offspring (naturally missing appendages, weak skeletal structure, etc.). No one can really say what homosexuality is doing to human SOCIETY (and I'm not trying to make any claim), but let's be honest with ourselves, it must be recognized that homosexuality is hurting the human SPECIES. An unwanted genetic trait that prohibits an individual to pass on his genes to the next generation could be ANYTHING and is rare and varied, but why is a gene as destructive as sexual attraction to the same sex as rampant as it is?

Your basic question: "Why is homosexuality as rampant as it is?" leads me to believe you think homosexuality is increasing. If that is your reasoning I suggest that concept may actually be flawed. I'm no expert on the subject but is it possible that little has changed in the ratio of "hetero" to "homo" sexual's. What if the reason the numbers are seeming to grow is the relaxation of the stigma associated with homosexuality. It seems to me the subject is well documented in the Roman Empire so it goes back at least that far. And of course the fact that fewer are being beaten to death over their sexual preference could lead to a greater openness.

It may simply be that today's gay community has less fear and is not allowing others to force them to live their lives under some cloak in order to survive.

It has been proven scientifically that homosexuality is a genetic "thing". It is natural. There is homosexuality in all animal species. Anyone who says homosexuality is not natural has not studied their science enough. Is it that homosexuality is rampant, or are you just noticing it because it has, pardon the pun, come out of the closet and is more mainstream than ever before? Homosexuals have been around for centuries, and it has not stopped the human species from overpopulating the planet yet.

While I agree that homosexuality does seem to defy natural law and survival of the species, I don't really agree that it is really a threat to the survival of the human society when there are countries out there whose populations are over 1 billion and still climbing. The majority of the population is still heterosexual and still breeding at a steady rate. There are some places in the world experiencing negative population growth like Western Europe, but I don't think homosexuality is the reason why.

Good question. Assuming it is a genetic trait, one has to conclude that homosexuality as a mainstream lifestyle would kill the whole human species off. For survival of the species, which is the NATURAL path for any species, you also have to conclude that homosexual behavior is an aberration from a scientific point of view.

Oh, and the earth is NOT overpopulated. Who are we to determine that one way or another? I don't know about you guys, but I see plenty of land, space, and resources everywhere I go, here in North America or abroad.

Bigotry and hatred, like you display, hurts the human species a lot more than two people of the same gender who love each other.

Please don't give us the tired old "people are meant for procreation or they are useless" argument. Make sure that you include all barren straight couples and ones who choose not to have children. See? Your "logic" falls apart.

Please keep your hatred to yourself. Or, perhaps try tolerance, understanding, and peace for a change.

There's a difference between "being curious" and attacking LGBT people as having an undesirable "mutation."

Because if you read anything about evolution regarding kin selection you would know that you do not have to be a parent to pass on your genes. Most members of some species such as ants are infertile but by living in social situations they ensure that their genes are passed on.

I can't remeber who said it but when an evolutionary scholar was asked whether he would lay down his life for his brother he replied 'No, but i'd do it for four first cousins and a half brother'.

Start with reading 'The selfish gene', if you can get through it it will change your life!

I don't know why it is so prevalent, but it has been around throughout history and in every culture and society. I doubt it will hurt the human species, since we already live in an overpopulated world. Besides, many heterosexual couples are deciding to not have children, so they are not populating the world either.

It is rampant, isn't it? Just yesterday our community had a thundering herd of Homos ride right down Main St. Lord have Mercy, all those people chock full of those destructive same -sex attraction genes in our town just caused poor Aunt Bea to faint right on the spot. It took Barney and Andy and the whole town of Mayberry to help her up. We hid little Opie, of course, cuz you know those homos are after little boys all the time...

Okay say homosexuality is genetic. You say homosexuality is hurting the human species. How do homosexuals pass this gene if they were born from two heterosexual parents? How is that the homosexuals fault? My parents were heterosexual, I'm a lesbian. If it is genetic, how am I to blame for that? If it is genetic, the gene was passed to me through no fault of mine. You cant blame passing on ANYTING genetic to one person, race, culture, etc.
