I could probably get a 30" tub in there but ... the drain wouldn't line up .... it would be offset a couple inches .... is this a major problem ??

You can do as Linda said but you may find that you need to raise your tub up a few inches to do so.(which can be done pretty easy with a step up to the tub) Another option may be to cut out the floor and move the drain, There usually is considerable space within the floor. A 28" tub may be available from a mobile home supply.

If you want the added size of a 30" tub it is easy to align the drain if it is off a bit.

We did this when we took out our tub and put in a shower.

Go to your local hardware store (the plumbing department can probably help you if you do not know what I am talking about).

Purchase two pvc 90 degree elbows that correspond with the size of your drain (2 inch is common). Then buy a two foot piece of straight pvc pipe that you can cut to fit the length you need. Put the two elbows on each end of the straight pipe to form an S shape (one facing up and one facing down). One elbow goes to the bottom of the tub and the other one goes to the drain.

That should work for you.
