Don't get me wrong. I love my life, but it can't always be fun and enjoyable. There are things that everyone has to do in order maintain their lives as stable. You have to do what you have to do to get what you want. When I am in that "have to" stage in my day, I tend to go through it with a stoic, calculation and efficiency of a robot, I guess. It doesn't cause me distress, but it is hard to ignore compared to how I am when I am enjoying the fruits of my labor; loose, spontaneous, easy going and doing what I like. Does anyone else out there have this sense of duality?

Nice answer, very intelligent and insightful, but I think you may be using your religion as an opiate.

Dear 1 Me,

I've had times like that in my 58 years and I've hated it. I remember 1 time especially. I was going through an unwanted divorce and things were bad where I worked because there was a banking crisis going on and we employees felt like there was no leadership from our bosses.

My counselor told me I needed to make a list of things I wanted to do after divorce but I couldn't do that because I didn't want the divorce. I finally made out a list of Have To Dos and WANT To Dos and then I asked my heavenly Father to help me make the Have Tos Want Tos. It was all I could do to twiddle my thumbs.

God answered that prayer along with lots of others.

Now, I am trying to figure out where to move to in the spring and I'm going through a similar struggle and once again I hate it. I am a low energy person to begin with but this Have To is really depleting my energy! But now I do keep reminding myself THAT THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

It is my belief that every action can both feel "robotic" or autonomous as well as be enjoyable. For instance, when professional athletes play their sports, they love playing them (for the most part) yet once they begin, it is as though they aren't really trying, they go through the actions almost automatically, flowing with some apparent unseen energy. Now of course people, at least presently, have to work, study, eat, and so on. Some of these actions may seem tedious, repeated over and over to the point where we don't even know we do them (ever get that feeling?). However, try to enjoy even these actions, make a conscious effort to truly be grateful for being physically/emotionally/spiritually able to do each action you do throughout the day. Doing so grants you an incredible power: to see life as it really is in its beauty, balance, and harmony.

That sense of duality, as you call it, has two causes. The first is our desire for freedom from responsibility. Responsibility, at times, creates a sense of burden. It is necessary, like eating, sleeping, etc. But wouldn't it be great to live in a world where we could do what we wanted when we wanted and all things would bring an equal amount of pleasure? If people do not have this sense of duality, it probably means they do not take responsibility seriously.

Yet, I stated that it has two causes. the second cause is the fact that we were created to enjoy life, but since we have eliminated God from our agenda, that sense of emptiness or lack of fulfillment crops its ugly head into our daily experience. Bottom line, if my life is God-centered, rather than me-centered, everything becomes a joy. Duty becomes privilege, responsibility becomes opportunity. Definitely, society as a whole and the way it functions now, you at some aspects of life have to take up some level of a robot so to speak to function.
And if you stop and think about, it is rather easy to act like a robot than a human being.

Yeah, i've reached a place where i consciencely use my emotions to control myself and therefore others. Like a switch or valve i only let in what i want and can turn off my emotions. I feel like a monster sometimes. I might say i was dangerous but i can t lose control, Things just go slow motion, But i could hurt anyone with proper reason or motivation......i find that disturbing.

I have in the past. If you're going through a lot, sometimes it's a survival tactic to shut down your emotions & go through the motions. It will catch up with you eventually if you don't deal with it.

Yes!
It's like you just switch into automatic and go through the motions. Maybe we should try to avoid that one day, and see what it's like to actually experience those mundane parts of life.

Never. Robots can't think freely, all they know is what's programmed into them. I try to think and expand my knowledge every day which is what makes me feel human.
