Many animals die of a broken heart after their owners die. Some people give up the will to live after their loved ones have move on.

I definitely believe you can.... sometimes people cannot live when something affects their emotional heart -

I have lived long enough to know that when a person wants to die, they will. My aunt lost her daughter (and she was in GREAT health) and she always said she didn't want to live anymore. She died 7 months later. I believe that if her daughter had not died, she'd still be here.

A broken heart is the lack of desire to live because you cannot face your future without.......... Ask any doctor or nurse and they'll tell you that when a person keeps a positive attitude and 'fights' whatever is wrong - they're a lot more apt to overcome the illness. Attitude is everything......

A traumatic breakup, the death of a loved one or even the shock of a surprise party can unleash a flood of stress hormones that can stun the heart, causing sudden, life-threatening heart spasms in otherwise healthy people, researchers have reported.
its a really long article but a very interesting read so check out the link below..

I think you can. I have seen/heard of a few people who lost the will to die after a loved one died. This is usually someone who has been together for many yrs and is okder anyway. I knew of an older man who was healthy as a horse until his wife died. 6 months later he died.

I used to work in a pharmacy. We had a sweet elderly couple who had been married since their 20's who came in a lot. One evening the man dropped dead from a heart attack right outside our store. In less than a week, his wife died too. That's enough proof for me.

sometimes old people die only a couple of months after their mate has died. I guess severe stress could kill you so in a roundabout way i guess its possible
