I’m Mexican, as in born and raised in Mexico. I have Mexican parents, and Mexican grandparents. I see on American TV the Hispanic characters they have. American media seems to neglect the blond Mexicans. I know we aren’t that many, but American media also neglects the white skinned Mexicans. There are a lot of white Mexicans in Mexico, yet I barely see any on American TV when it comes to Hispanic characters.

Being blond, could I ever play a Mexican character on American TV?

You could try, but unless you wrote your own show and cast yourself in it (a la Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the '90's) bringing attention to the multi-hued nature of Mexicans, I doubt that the casting directors would cast you without requesting that you "darken up."

The only other suggestion that I could make is going for a "Spaniard" role. These too, are mainly cast by "morenos" because America doesn't know the difference, but you may have a better chance. If you're a good actor, you could fake the Castillian accent.

It's sad, but true that Hollywood only seeks to enforce sterotypes, not destroy them. Even sadder, America allows it. Best of luck.

i noticed that too, but in mexican media. they all have light skinned, blonde mexicans. in mexico they only have a few blonde, light skinned mexicans in certain parts of mexico. so i found that weird for them to not put only those people in mexican media. and some are not even mexican they're from other countries. but your right i haven't seen a light skinned mexican actor when portraying a mexican here in america media. it's funny because my bf is mexican and has light brown hair and green eyes. so everyone thinks he's white lol

Unfortunately, most Americans stereotype. I seriously doubt if anyone would ever cast a blonde as a mexican character. If they did, they would probably want you to dye your hair and darken your skin. Sad, but that is the plain truth of it.

Probably not, but did you ever notice that in all the Spanish Soap Operas and other shows, those are the main characters? LIght skinned Mexicans or light colored eyes? They discriminate against those who have dark complexion? Why is that?
