We live in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada - we are looking to get rid of our very usable dining room set (table, x6 chairs, long sideboard and china cabinet). Is there a place that someone can think of that would take it as a donation but give out a tax receipt for it???

Goodwill, the St. Vincent's DePaul Society, the Salvation Army, and many other places will take your furniture off of your hands and issue you a receipt. Some will pick the furniture up and some will not. Best advice is to call them for information.

Good luck with your donation.

Lood for the Goodwill, or the Salvation Army. There's a catholic version too, I just can't remember what it's called. Any of those are valid charities, and donations are tax breaks. Most churches would also know of charities that could use furniture.

Goodwill, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity,...
Look in the phone book under non-profit organizations and start calling.

On top of all the other great ideas, you might try looking up an American Cancer Society number. They have thrift shops that benefit the ACS, and they'll give you a slip.

I took my deceased mother's clothes there when my father died of cancer. It was very cathartic knowing that I was contributing towards a good cause.
