first of all the "80's were a time of the BIG HAIR BANDS so it's really hard to think of single female artist!! Also "New Wave" is what we used to call it back then. So pretty much the females that r listed above r it! Also this was a time when ANDROGENY was Queen/King...so
many male lead singers were expressing their feminine sides ala Bowie-Duran Duran-Culture Club-Cure-Roxy Music-Soft Cell-Depeche Mode-the guy that sings "you spin me right round..like a record"
Remember the #1 surprise movie hit of that time was "The Crying Game"
that's a tough question to answer. I think that's why "Grunge Bands" then became the next trend...the total opposite of the "80's
