Click on my Avatar and look at my question I posted asking the same question. There are some rockin answers there. Water softener was one of the suprising and yet DUH? ones I got.
Good luck, it took a combination of a few of the ones listed to get the rust out of my tee...

This in not known yet for many people. Use vitamin C. Press a pill in between two spoons, add some water to form a paste, apply to fabric, wait. Repeat if necessary. It won´t discoluor the fabric...like magic.

I use rust remover from the hardware store.
