I will be on vacation and I was hoping to find a nice place to stop in between Whistler and Calgary, somewhere half way the two places would be ideal.
I have never visited the area and I am not sure how the roads will be, some peple told me they should be OK, fingers crossed...

Thanks

Penticton or Kelowna.

They have lots of hotels and restaurants as they are fair size cities that are use to tourists. It is slightly less than half way, but if you go further you end up in smaller villages in the middle of no where. That leaves you with less amenities and higher prices.

Are you leaving Whistler via Pemberton on Vancouver? If Pemberton, make sure you check out the road conditions fist. Beautiful country, avoids the Vancouver traffic, but very remote and windy mountain roads.

You should look into staying somewhere like Revelstoke, B.C. or if you can make it in one day you should really check out Banff, Alberta. I stayed in both Revelstoke and Banff on my trip out to Western Canada. Banff is very touristy so it didn't really feel very remote. Revelstoke on the other hand is basically in the middle of nowhere, and it is such a sweet little town. There are many hotels and restaurants, and when I was there the community was celebrating Grizzly week or something Grizzly-related. Just do your research and you'll be fine. You should also get a traveller's guide so that you can call hotels on the way for availability if you decide to just wing-it.
As for the roads, they're really nice. It seems as if they were planned so that a tourist can get the best views possible. The roads are very smooth and, being from Quebec, I can tell the difference (Quebec roads are garbage!).

well, Penticton is about 30 min out of your way.... Kelowna is on your way. Nice place on the lake. Probably about 5 or so hours from Whistler. Kelowna to Calgary is about 7 hours.
Revelstoke would be about 7 plus hours from Whistler... making your trip to Calgary the following day a tad shorter.
you decide!
