Is this the date that the online library collected the article, or the day I downloaded it? Or something else entirely?

retrival date is the date when you accessed the information for use

depending on which writing style you use (the two main being Modern Language Association (MLA) or the American Psychological Association (APA)) the standard format is DD/M(written out)/YYY example used is todays date
