Depending on which mail provider you are using.......if you use webmail then go into preferences and there should be an option to notify you. If you have Yahoo, after you sign in, look up to the left for these options :Mail For Mobile - Upgrades - Options

click on options and read it.

Click on Start> Settings> Control Panel> Sounds. It's in there.

In Yahoo, just enable messenger - and it'll give you a YaaaHooooo
