Your rhyme is flawed. It should be:-

If a fellow met a fellow,
In a field of fitches,
Could a fellow tell a fellow,
Where a fellow itches

The field contains fitches which are the seeds of the black cumin or black caraway. They are mentioned in the Bible in the Book of Ezekiel Chapter 4 verse 9. It is also spelled as vetches. In the Bible instructions are given as to the harvesting of fitches and flails are not to be used as the seeds are so small. As they are handpicked and spicy and aromatic it is possible that a rash would develop on the hands which would itch. Also bear in mind that loose robes would be worn that did not cover the legs so other, more sensitive, parts could come in contact with the plants and which you may not care to discuss. The seeds are used in dishes such as curries and sprinkled on buns before baking.

Sometimes the spelling 'fiches' is used.
