(I live in Southern California, so the weather doesn't get too cold, if that makes any difference.)

Being in warm California does help because eventually it will self-discharge and be more susceptible to freezing. Then when it cracked open you would have acid spilling off the shelf.

If you tried to keep it charged (which is necessary to keep sulfation from ruining its internal plates) then you would have acid fumes corroding things in garage.

Plus there is always the possibility that it will get knocked off the shelf and break open on the floor splashing acid all over the legs of whoever bumped into it.

If you don't need it give it away or recycle it - otherwise it is a future disaster.

I am thinking this battery is out of a car or boat your going to store for the winter. Here is what I do when I store my car for the winter. I will remove the cables from the battery and leave it in the car. I will put a charger on it that I can set for maintain. the charger keeps a charge on the battery and will also help keep it warm in the winter time. I live in utah and I have had this battery and set up for 6 years. the battery is still strong. If you keep it in the car or boat you never have to wory about where your going to put it come winter. It's worked for me for 6 years.

You can store it in the garage but make sure to keep the water level up enough to cover the plates inside the battery. It will discharge over a long period of time so before you go to reinstall the battery put it on the charger.

Some say a concrete floor will leach ellectrons from the battery? its` also easier to trip over. It is a good idea to keep it on a trickle charger. The best way to keep the charge up is to use solar trickle chargers.

The best way would be to hook it up to an automatic trickle charger which would charge the battery as needed.Check the fluid level periodically.
