My sister left her husband last week and I am going down to see her today (we live 7 hours apart) I think she can do a lot better than him, as he is lazy, mean, a liar and just generally horrible but dont want to say that in case they get back together and make it awkward(?) She has a son to him. What do I say to her? She wants me there for her, but I have no idea what you say in things like that

Just being there and listening will be enough. Dont get into how you feel about her husband. When I divorced my first husband it did not help for anyone to tell me what a jerk he was. But it helped to have some one listen and support me.

Your sister needs you to be completely open and honest with her. Forget about 'not saying anything in case they get back together'. That is just nonsense. She left him for a reason, and she needs to be reminded of that, she needs to know it's okay to leave him, and she needs to know she has her family's support. Let her know she can count on you when times really get tough and that she is not alone.

Bite your tongue when you feel the urge to say bad things about her husband. You're going to feel pretty bad if they get back together.

Just be a good sister and listen to her. Hold her when she cries.

Take your sister to church to learn God's way of living a good and hopeful life. God loves you, and you are precious to Him.

She is going to need you to listen, not tell her what to do.

Just be there for her, she needs a shoulder to cry on, not advice.
