Using add, subtract, multiply or divide, perform the same operation on both sides of the equation to produce the form

y = expression

- 4y = - 10 x + 13 {subtract 10 x}
y = (- 10x + 13)/(-4) { divide by -4}
y = 5x/2 - 13/4

2. 4x + 7y = 14
7y = -4x + 14 {subtract 4x}
y = - 4x/7 + 2 {divide by 7}

This question isn't too difficult, we need to factorise. Just ask yourself: what two factors of 66 add to give 17? Well, factor pairs of 66 include: 2 and 33, 6 and 11, 3 and 22. Obviously 6 and 11 are the answer. So the factorisation is: (y - 11)(y - 6) = 0 y = 11 or 6 That is, unless you didn't just miss the y there, and you actually wanted to factorise: y^2 - 17 + 66 = 0 y^2 + 49 = 0 y^2 = -49 This has no real solution, since we can't have the square root of a negative.
