Charity is when one gives "help" because they pity or feel sorry for the poor.
I believe that aid can benefit struggling people BUT the reality is simply that people must take responsibility for their problems.
Many live in fear from oppressive governments or religious edicts. This fear prevents them from from taking action.
I will never understand people who choose to suffer- watch their families starve and die from many different reasons simply because their
government officials choose to use their power to live off the backs of their countrymen.
Most "aid" is turned over to government or private organization "officials" who re-sell the aid products and live very well off their profits.
They could care less if some starve or never get the vaccines/medicine etc ..
So why do the thousands of people wasting away tolerate the graft and the murderers in their midst???....
Survival is not simply feeling lucky you made it thru one more miserable day ..People have more power than they choose to acknowledge...yet repressive regimes still exist..
Sad...BUT Charity will not motivate people to use their ability to effect changes that will help raise up their quality of life...and insure the survival of their next generation

Not even by 3015. A charity gives someone a helping hand, that is all they can be expected to do. For poverty to be eradicated, the richer nations must plan for it, and the poor nations have to do more to help themselves. Most poor countries lack expert knowledge with regard to agriculture and irrigation, they don`t have the tools they need or the seeds to plant. Once they can feed themselves they will be half way there. Drought and famine will follow year after year unless they manage to get water where it is needed, this is something the richer nations can help with. The sooner they do this in earnest, the better things will become.

Charities don't end poverty, governments do. Unfortunately all the big countries and groups, G8, EU, etc.. want to keep the poor poor, if they didn't we would all be signed up to free trade agreements. 3rd world countries don't want hand outs they want the ability to develop sustainable economies and compete on a level playing field. How can it be right that third world countries have to import food stuffs because they cannot compete with first world subsidies.

No, they can't. No charity can - by 2015 or any other time. Poverty can only be stopped if less developed countries develop their resources; get fair prices in trade and their leaders stop stealing/ Western leader expose them, return their loot and help them install true democracies
