"Democrats are shocked that not everyone shares theirs."
Democrats are well aware that Republicans have a different world view and that they operate from a different set of assumptions (and sometimes facts!) I'm not insular, but I find certain views hard to fathom. And I feel that certain techniques, such as promoting divisiveness are just plain wrong.

If you're talking about politicians there is not much difference, just who they take money from.
If you're talking about voters, then there are big differences:
Democrats are willing to debate and compromise.
Republicans must have their way and see controlling congress and the courts as a way to ramrod their agenda.
Democrats vote for Libertarians, Green Party, etc. as well as for their own party.
Republicans largely vote along party lines.
Democrats consider how legislation affects others.
Republicans consider how legislation affects themselves.
Democrats want families to make their own decisions.
Republicans want congress to tell families how to be moral.
Democrats respect others' opinions.
Republicans insecurity causes them to dislike those that disagree with them.
These are generalizations, but largely true. I could go on.
Note about abortion and gay marriage: These are voter turn-out items. Abortion is not going to be made illegal by either party. Gay marriage will happen in one form or another, because congress could really care less about it since they know there is no real effect it will have on society or hetero marriages. These items are used to get the most gullible among us to the polls to vote Republican. If you vote for someone because of one of these two issues, you have been duped. Time to wake up folks!

Democrats ; party of the people ( all people ) by the people and for the people, college students, poor people, environmentalist, conservationist, women rights etc, etc.
Republicans ; party of big business, oil giants, the wealthy, haters, war doers, they will not raise your taxes but every thing Else will be sky high, sometimes I would rather pay the 30.00 more a month in taxes than 100.00 more in gas, 50.00 more a month in insurance premiums.

I will make it as simple as possible Republicans believe in the individuals that make this country great and Democrats believe that it is the government that makes this country great. Republicans are more results orientated Democrat are more feelings orientated regardless of the results.

the intelligence isn't any different overall in either party.. it comes down to a simple analogy.. brains versus brawn.. the republican party takes more of the "brawn" approach and the democrats take the "brains" approach... one day the nation will see that we need both, until then there will be more pointless bickering.

Mainly now a days it's moral issues like abortion and gay marriage. Issues about economy, foreign affairs, the environment are important but I think people focus on morals.

We're only shocked that educated citizens don't share our views. We're not shocked that the uneducated or brainwashed disagree.

You have that right..,libs take out holidays at the schools, did away with p.e. and recess because it was politically correct to do so and the libs are policing what we eat because we have fat kids that no longer have pe and recess.People are now being arrested in Omaha for smoking in public to a lib.Naacp and others like them continually taking religious displays to court because it hurt someones feelings to look at it.And yet fight for the rights for schools to learn about Muslims and Quanza and homosexuals.Libs continually fight for the death of babies and fight for the death of those that cannot speak for themselves[Terry Schiavo].So the democrats are more for government in our private lives and the deterioration of our military and the capabilities for us to defend ourselves and fight our enemies.Keep up the good work libs.

I am so tired of people answering their own question right after they ask it.... what exactly do you want to know? You seem to already have the answer to what you asked - so what the hell is the point of asking this question???

Republicans insist anyone who disagrees with them are traitors.
Democrats will defend people's rights to believe differently.
