I went to the gynecologist yesterday and I knew it might be a uncomfortable, and my female friends said i might feel a bit of pressure, but overall the pap test does not hurt. I was stunned how much it really really hurt. I have never experienced pain like that before. No one else I know has expereinced this, but I can't be the only woman in the world who had a really painful pap test.

I am still bleeding from it (day 2) (The Gynecologist said I was bleeding more then I should.)

Actually, according to my primary doctor, sometimes (though this is no common) but some women have what is known as Friable Cervix, which makes a gal prone to bleeding and discomfort due to a pap smear. It can occur due to anything ranging from inflammation and infection to lupus and diaplsy (sp?) which is pre-cancer.

You need to see a different Gyno! He may have used a speculum that's too big for you and tore something.
A regular pap is usually uncomfortable..but not cause you to bleed. All they do is use a swab that looks like a large q-tip and take a sample from your cervix.
If you are bleeding something else was done to you!
Is it possible that you had a biopsy?? If so this will cause some light to moderate bleeding.
Ask around for a good ob/gyn, and change Dr's.

I would return to my doctor immediately if it is really as painful as you are expressing and there is still bleending two days later. Most pap tests are relatively painless. There is a small pinch of a pain and some very very light bleeding could occur afterwards, but that should be it. A couple of other things to consider are a person's tolerance to pain and that some women bleed more than others. Ultimately each person's experience is different, however yours does sound unusual. I would get in and see the doc now.

Absolutely NOT natural. And if the agony began even earlier than she touched your cervix (while she positioned the speculum in) that might propose that *whatever* is occurring down there. Has sex been painful? Any unusual discharge? Pain or anguish at different instances? There are 1 matters that COULD be inflicting this, however you surely want a prognosis. Ask for a referral to another gyn, and get it looked after. (I've certainly not determined paps to be painful -- the legs within the stirrups could be a bit crampy if she's doing different stuff and I must be in that role for various mins, however the speculum and sampling of the cervix are painless.

Your doctor might have used too large of a speculum, or simply been too rough... some doctors just do not have the knack. A pap smear is not exactly comfortable, but it shouldn't be actually painful.

Next time ask your doctor to use a Pederson speculum, which is shorter and narrower. And if it hurts... let the doc know! There's no good reason to make you suffer unnecessarily.

Some times it depends on the person doing it. If they arnt gentle it will hurt. Mine always hurt and I alway bleed but I know I am healthy though. If your gyn says you are bleeding too much I would go back and get it checked out again. Its probably nothing. Hope I could help.

Sounds like you need a new doc. I have had paps to be very uncomfortable but not terribly painful. Is it possible that you have started your period. If you were about to start when he did your scrap it could have caused you to start.

Sounds like your gyne was too aggressive in the scraping. Paps should not hurt. I would start to look for another gyne.

sounds like either and inexperienced gyn or an incompetent one....it is uncomfortable but not painful and yes, you should not be bleeding this long..go to another gyn or to the emergency room and tell them what happened.
