Understand perfectly...I'm of Irish decent, (mom born/lived in N. Ire.). People love to stereotype, and I get very angry at those who think the Irish are heavy drinkers of whiskey (whisky) and beer are total drunks! Not so! Our family comes from a very strict background where drinking is not tolerated whatsoever! (A glass of wine at Christmas was a breakthrough about 10 years ago). Also, my mom was the only red head of ten children born to my grandparents...others were light to dark brown and a few blondes..
By the way, of course, leprechauns don't really exist, nor does the tale of the Giant's Causeway...(except in great imaginations like yours and mine - 'cause we are Irish!) And - I hate stew, too!
Be proud of your Irish heritage, and gently explain to people who seemed to be so ill informed!

I'll bet that's true about a lot of countries, though. States, too. I'm from California and I went to college in the midwest. Everyone there acted shocked to find out all girls from California aren't blue-eyed blonde-haired beach bunnies. People just LOVE to stereotype.

A lot of what you talk about are stereotypes of people in Ireland. You're not going to be able to prevent people from stereotyping another group, so just laugh at their stupidity and live your life.
Enjoy your day. :)

easily, i do no longer understand very plenty approximately eire. i understand that purple hair is a generalization and that leprechauns do no longer exist. i do no longer understand what the Irish oftentimes consume when you consider that i've got not visited. yet i assume that they consume extra beneficial than potatoes and stew. As for the accents, it relies upon who you ask. To me, i've got heard some Irish accents and theory maximum of them have been somewhat reliable. yet, i do no longer see something incorrect with that. i admire listening to Irish accents.
