ok here is wat u should do...firstly ask someone whos got an orkut account or a gmail account to send u a friend request...!
for the second part..about making friends..:
in orkut u can browse through millions of peoples profiles...if u find somone interesting and wanna be their friend then u can jus add them as ur friend..by clicking the "add as friend" button on the left of their profile. but be CAREFULL as to who u add..!
and by the way there are also interesting features such as crush list which u'll come to know once ur in there...if u want further help or an invite to orkut mail me at sailing_dart@yahoo.co.in

u just need an orkut invite, send me ur e-mail id i'll forward you one. or if you have a gmail account then you can even use that to login in orkut. have fun orkuting !

ask a freind to invite u OR get a google account
the orkut navigation is simple, u won't have trouble using it
