I replied that I would because according to the Constitution of the United States, Amendment XXII this would not be legal. Somebody gave me a THUMBS DOWN for this answer. I am stunned, can somebody PLEASE explain? Rep or Dem, Conservative or Liberal, don't we all believe in following the Constitution?

I'm confused friend. Why do you think such a thing is possible? Maybe you are taking a page from the fact that Bush chooses to ignore the Constitution when it suits his purposes, but this would never be allowed or even considered. It's a non-issue.

After reading through these answers I am amazed at the number of people that think he could skip a term and then run again. That isn't allowed folks, sorry. Yes, technically his father could run since he only served one term. That's why (this is being debated recently by some politicos) Bill Clinton could never serve in an office with his wife as President that was listed for Presidential succession.

From Wikipedia:
The Twenty-second Amendment of the United States Constitution sets a term limit for the President of the United States, providing that "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

I don't need a link A president can only be elected to 2 terms, or if taking office midterm do to a exiting president for whatever reason they cannot serve more then 10 years. this happened in regards to FDR who was elected to a unprecedented 4 terms. I used to disagree with this, but I'm glad its there. I can't believe the amount of people on this site that are so stupid when it comes to this countries history and the constitution, What the heck are they teaching these days anyway

If Bush were elected for a third term, I would be upset for many, many reasons. Upholding he Constitution of the United States would probably be the least one. However, you are correct, it would be illegal and it won't happen. You should not have received a thumbs down for your answer. The person that did it was a moron and that is what is killing this country. People like them are voting in elections and it DOES effect outcomes.

Don't take the thumbs down personally. Whoever that was is just a Bush lover/apologist.
You're absolutely right, the Constitution states 2 terms only, no matter how much you like the guy.
End of story!

following the constitution, of course we do but ur forgeting a freedom to vote for the president that u get to vote besides after all the young men that he's sent over to iraq (young man but never seen action speaking) to their deaths i can't blame people for wanting him out of office. Something bush doesnt understand is that there will always be terrorists as long as countries fell pressured by us or any other nation we need to learn that other countries want to develop into there own unique selves not necessarily follow in our footsteps! and actually u can't run 3 consecutive u can run two skip an election then run another 2 if u wanted u can do this however many times u want.

I would certainly be upset, since as you state it violates the constitution...though I wouldn't be suprised to see him dance around the fundamental freedoms and laws of the country he is supposed to be serving!!!

Don't worry too much about the thumbs down...you can't really tell me that this was the first time someone (likely a republican bush supporter) gave you a thumbs down for an answer that was percieved by them to be anti bush...don't forget, there is no IQ test for having the priviledge to thumbs down someone.

Hmm...alot of answerers seem to be missing the point of your question....read first please!!!

i think you gave the right answer. i find it amazing how many people ask questions and then when they are answered with law someone gets all uptight. it's the law, if someone doesn't like it... maybe they should find a way to change it.

you simply stated the law, no real reason for a thumbs down. i've noticed that there are quite a few people on here who do not know certain laws and get uptight when you tell them the law. seems odd, i'd think everyone would be open to education.

Yes I would be upset, after all a 2 term limit for the President is the law of the land.

It is an irrelevant question. Bush is incapable of being President, ergo, he cannot be appointed by the electoral college. Even if Bush were to run for the House, become speaker, and both the sitting vice president and president died, he still could not become president.

I would leave the country becuase once one part of the Constitution is successfully thrown out, they would feel they could throw all of it out, and turn this country into basically a dictatorship. It could very easily happen too.
