They show his "corpse" in the beginning..being fitted for his burial suit...but I dont think his face is ever shown....interesting.

The character's name was Alex, and he was played by Kevin Costner. There was a flashback scene (which did show his face) filmed that never made it into the final movie - too bad!

Kevin Costner was, indeed, the dead guy in The Big Chill. The scenes which showed his face were cut from the final version of the film.
