Red is the rarest. Red with purple striations is one of the most sought after colors of diamonds, and the least available.
Red diamonds generally go for about $900,000 per carat.
Red diamonds are in fact, rarer than a FL, or flawless white diamond.

Red is the rarest. Then Blue and green. Orange, yellow, and other mixes exist as well.
Quita...where are you getting your facts? That is not correct at all. You can buy a regular diamond for millions if it is huge. Red diamonds can be up to 1 Million dollars for a one carat.

Natural fancy coloured diamonds are very rare and expensive. Blue is one of the rarest and most desirable colours. The Hope diamond, which we have viewed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., is the most famous blue diamond in the world, and the largest at 45.52 carats.
Out of all colored diamonds, red diamonds are the rarest of all.

According to my husband:
Paisley!!
(but that is his answer to anything about colors!)
For real. According to About.com:
"Diamonds that are certified as "red" are so rare that most diamond dealers have never seen one. Blue is the next rarest color. Blue diamonds are almost exclusively mined in Australia and South Africa."
According to Color Diamond Encyclopedia:
"Diamonds of all colors can be found in nature. Over 300 colors have so far been identified, however these come in an infinite number of shades and hues.
From pink to black, spanning all the colors of the rainbow including blue, red, yellow, green, gray and brown, natural color diamonds are all excluded from the D to Z classification, which only applies to colorless ("white") diamonds."
BTW, black diamonds are not rare or natural:
"Heat treatment or annealing : this technique produces black diamonds. Low quality diamonds are exposed to very high temperatures (around 1000°C) for several hours, until graphite residues appear in the heart of the crystal, making it dark and opaque or even uniformly black. Laboratories do not deliver certificates for these treated diamonds."
