We did at ours. Heck, we even had alcohol at my baby shower. (I didn't drink it of course). We were the same way. We only had 5 children and about 20 adults.

The one year old will never remember the party. If you are having a BBQ with alcohol, the party is for you and your friends to celebrate the birthday. Of course you can drink, as long as someone sober is supervising the children, and as long as none of the minors get ahold of any of the alcohol.

I've been to childrens birthdays where there was alcohol and sometimes I thought it was inappropriate like when the parents needed the sober nanny to take their kids home but my sons first birthday is coming up and yes there will be some contolled drinking. It's okay to enjoy yourself too, but make sure that your child has fun first and formost. Why can't everyone enjoy themselves right? I mean come on, you've been a parent for a whole year too, why can't you have a celebration of that? : ) have fun!!!

No beer or wine if its is the childs Birthday the idea is to focus on the child for 1 day as adults when our B-day comes we can drink all we want. Make it a special day for the child video the whole day

Sure, just keep it out of reach of the children. I would have to have something to drink with kids around, they scare me....they are small and resemble people!

Much ado about nothing. Have fun. Your kid won't remember a thing.

For the 'don't drink, it's not fair on the kids' brigade, get a life.
