I'm currently a Medical Technology/ Clinical Lab Science major. I've been told however that this job doesn't pay very well, with odd hours and sometimes unpleasant working conditions. I KNOW for a fact I want to do lab work, but I'm more interested in a lot of diagnostics and research. What would be a good career for someone who is more biology (not chemistry) minded, wants to work in a lab, likes to figure out the causes of things such as disease or genetic abnormalities, and how to diagnose it and fix it, and still make good money?

I think there are two things you could do. One is to get a Ph.D. in something like genetics or molecular biology and then work in industry. I think the average salary for a scientist with a Ph.D. in the pharmaceutical industry is around $90,000.

You could also try medical school, and work in clinical research. Doctors make a lot of money, and you could specialize in research instead of patient care. My boss is an M.D. and he runs a research lab.

Environmental toxicology and industrial hygiene. These fields pay very, very well and as our world gets more and more developed, safety and regualtion of pollution and human health is only growing in demand. I have a B.S. in e-tox and I started at 85K/year.
