I think China is getting a little better ( they still have a LONG way to go though). On the other hand, North Korea is still as bad as ever. They by FAR have the worst human rights in the world. Now, on where to shop, I don't really know. I did buy a pair of Lucky Brand jeans recently though, and the tag stated that they were made in the USA. So USA made cloths still exist.

labor conditions have been better in Chinese cities, but not sure about the rural areas. China is going through rapid modernization and urbanization so it will get worse before it gets better. Much like Europe and America back at the industrial revolution.

As for North Korea, it's a hell hole you can't escape from. With or without the sanctions of the UN, the life of a North Korean can be described as "deprived". Seriously what CAN you take from a country that has nothing?

Although i cant profess to know much about labor camp issues, its difficult for most to know much of anything about north korea in comparsion to most places, as the amount of information that gets out of the country is very limited. Still from what we do know, the conditions certainly are not good, even compared to china, which is by no means great.

However if you are looking for places to shop that are either American built or non-sweatshop it is somewhat regional as to what places have more oppertunities. Still a good way to find out such things is to look at some alternative media sources as their advertising is more likely to be for things which fit alternative lifestyles which in some cases means non-sweatshop.
