Hi, I have an 85 f-150 4x4 was running stout till last fall when it started shifting into passing gear and back every time I went up a hill and it would run so slow didn't think it would make it to the top or going down the road.Motor runs as if there was no problem normal revs. but no speed. I hear a noise in it like a loose rocker arm or push rod. Would a clogged transmission filter cause this type of problem and sounds? Thanks!

sure, have you ever changed trans. fluid and filter ? smell the fluid on the trans dip stick, if it smells burnt,or real dark in color, look to repairing, or replacing it.

If the filter is restricted, it will make a noise like a "buzz"ing or sharp fast rattle in the trans pan.
I wouldn't look to the transmission for that. I would check out the powertrain management (ECU) system.
If you have a noise like the rocker, does it change substantially (not speed, but tone) when it is in neutral from when it is in gear. If it does, the flex-plate is probably cracked.

Good Luck

yes it could especially if you havent changed it for a long time, but sounds like to be could be bigger problems, sounds like it is either slipping or its locking it self in to over drive, when you drive low speed (below 50 mph) or towing keep in drive. on the highway over 50 mph would be ok for over drive,
