My daughter has a cold I'm guessing since that's what we all had, but she keeps coughing a lot at night and she has a lot of snot (sorry!) I keep sucking it all up with a baby asperater and using the baby saline salution, but it's not helping. I try proping her up at night and that deosn't help either. All those are suggestions from her doctor, and it's not working!! She's not runnig a fever or anything, but she's just been really fussy. Any suggestions would really help! How can I help her get over this? It's been about 2 weeks she's had this and I feel so bad for her.

Sounds like your doing everything right. Also try putting a humidifier in the room too. Now this is far out there because it's only been about 2 weeks and i don't know what you are feeding your baby. But just know that if this continues for months, that my son went through this thing where he was about 2 months old and he started with what I thought was a cold and those symptoms continued on for the remainder of that first year and long story short, he ended up having milk allergies. He would produce so much mucus and phlegm that it would run down the back of his throat and he would cough and choke and every night was me trying to keep him upright and suctioned. Once we switched him to soy milk he was great. It wasn't lactose, it was a milk protein allergy.

She's coughing at night because of the sinus drip. Keep sucking the nose out.

I'm not sure if you allow your baby to sleep on her tummy, but that helped my son when he had his cold and ear infection. He was about 2 months when he got it a cold. Apparently it never cleared up and became an ear infection, which caused the drip in the throat, which caused the coughing.

He had a real rattle in the chest. I would have never guessed it was an ear infection. Just keep going back to the doctor every week or so until you get it licked. At that age, they are so fragile and a cold can turn into pnuemonia in no time at all.

I would use a humidifier to add some humidity to her room to help with her breathing. Also, ask the pediatrician if it is ok to give the baby more water at this time. Milk aids in the productions of mucus so you need to find a way to get the baby to drink more water to get the mucus out of her.

Keep aspirating her and using the saline. You are doing fine. It does mean good things that she isn't getting a fever.

You are doing well with the treatments that you have mentioned. I would just add those few things that I have mentioned and try to keep her comfortable.

Oh the poor little thing!!! My daughter got sick like that when she was 10 weeks old. Our pediatrician recommended a product called "Little Noses." It's like the saline that you put in the nostrils, but this actually has a medication in it that shrinks the tissues in the nose to help open them up. It helped a little with her. Of course--before you try it, talk with your pediatrician first to see if he/she OK's it.
I know you said you're propping her up--how far up is she propped? We had our daughter sleep in her car seat for about a week, so she was almost in a full sitting position. That helped, too. We just put the whole car seat in the bassinet.

Oh--and get yourself a humidifier. Vicks makes a good one--it's a hot mist one that you can put a menthol solution in. That helps, too.

turn on the shower so it makes steam and take her in the bathroom for alittle while the steam will make the asperater work better and do you have a vaporizer or a humidifier in her room that helps to if you don't have one boil a pot of water and place in her room....cold air actually helps to go for a walk outside if it is brisk where you are....patience helps to

My daughter had a snotty period too. She would sleep next to my bed in her car seat. She seemed to do better when I'd put her in the car seat, put her on the bathroom floor and turn the shower on hot. With the bathroom door closed it created a lot of steam and she seemed to stop coughing as much.

They cannot blow their noses until they are 2 or 3 years old......

Regular aspirators do not work.....
you have to get the baby vac.......available on the website or at the baby/toddler shows (that's where I purchased mine)
they use this in hospitals.......

http://babyvac.com (in the U.S.)
http://babyvac.ca (in Canada)

this helps prevent further infection like ear or sinus infections....
clears them right up.....
I love this thing!! It works! and my daughter is so much better....

And keep doing what you are doing..........
keep your baby upright so it's easier for them to breathe........and try some Vick's.......put a layer of Vaseline then the Vick's.......unless you have Baby Vick's vapo rub......

also bathe them in the Johnson's Vapo Bath......and I believe there is cream for that too......

use a humidifier as well to moisten the air.......like Vick's Vaporizer and SALINEX too.

Hope this helps.

I do not want to alarm you- I just want you to call your doctor, again. Those are all symptoms my daughter had from birth to six weeks old. She was even in the ER 3 times. At 6 weeks, she started a fever. It turned out to be spinal menengitis- which is something they wouldn't nornally have checked for. I caught it barely in time. Just check with your doctor to be on the safe side, please.

You should buy a humidifier, she's too young for the Vicks vapors and things like that. I had to do the same thing for my son, because none of the doctor's advice seemed to work.

I would go to another Dr. and get a second opinion. I have 5 kids and my now 3 year old was sick like that when she was young. She had to go to the emergency room to get help with the mucas so I would seriously get another Dr.
