My wife of 17 years has found a new love online and wants out. She says she told him she was married. Why would he keep talking to her.

Most of the time they don't tell you that they are married until after you have chatted with them for awhile; for people that feel that they have made an emotional connection that doesn't exist elsewhere in their lives then the pull to be with the person that is perceived to meet your needs is more powerful than right or wrong.
Bottom line, if there were not problems in the marriage they would not be seeking the emotional connection elsewhere. Most of the time the perceived "connection" with the new person is not real...just a distraction from what is missing. It would be worth it to both of you to seek counseling to explore what is missing and what can be done to try to heal what is missing.

Because he sees it as a challenge. I'm sorry it had to happen that way. But you two need to sit down and talk. Ask her why she wants a new lover after 17 years. Or maybe she just wants someone new to sleep with, not "love". If thats the case, then take heart! it's not over..things just got boring in the sack. And that can change without ruining your marriage and ending in divorce court....

Not all married people cheat and not everyone online will cheat. I know of married couples who can chat online without it ever leading to an affair. Its the people, your wife and the guy she was chatting to that decided to do this, not everyone will
