I'm not saying this is true, but if everybody that dies becomes a ghost then the ratio of good ghosts to bad ghosts will be the same as that of good people to bad people. So why are people so scared of them? (I don't believe in ghosts btw, this is just a question directed at believers)

The scary part is not when you see it, but after it left. You thought what you have witnessed and it is hair raising experience.

I will believe in ghosts when I see one, however, I think most people are scared because of the hype the news media, television makes it out to be. If there are ghosts out there, I believe some are nice and some are not nice. But I would at least one time in my life be able to actually see a ghost. I don't think I would be scared as I have seen many many scary movies and those movies don't scare me at all they only entertain me. And if I could pick a ghost I would like to see, well it would be a few celebrities and the one I would most like to see is Johnny Cash.

Im a flight attendant and we stay in heaps of Hotels all over the show, and there is negative energy in some of them. I don't know if ghosts exist or not, but residual feelings and energy might. Im afraid of getting a fright, and sometimes it makes for bad sleeps, but I am my own worst enemy I suppose. Lots of my fellow F/As have seen/experienced things (especially the Ilikai Hotel in Honolulu, bad energy there people), which doesn't help when we scare each other stupid on those night flights with stories and rumours from the circuit. All fun and games at the time, but then when Im alone in the hotel rooms......

for me it's the whole idea of the "unknown"... and I see it this way... ghosts were at one time people.. and as we all know some people were nice and some well not so nice... i'm also figuring that we have souls.. and depending on how you past and what type of person you were while you were alive i'm guessing plays a part on how you will be in spirit... and if there is a ghost that is a trouble maker... you have no clue what they will do!!!

I am tired of them. They are scared of ghosts because the activity that happens while they are present trying to get our attention defies what we understand about physics and our world as we see it. So, it is scary and confusing when a plate slides accross a counter top on it's own accord or a conversation is going on in the next room and you are home alone. There is absolutely no rational explaination of what is occuring.
From my experiances they both frightened me and interested me.

Well in my educated opinion, the job-profile of a ghost is to scare the living daylights out of living mortals, (except for a certain Mr. casper who even though a ghost has a reputation of being friendly...)
Therefore if they do not succeed in this endevour, they would practically be driven out of their profession by vampires, werewolves, marilyn mansons etc.
So its a matter of job-security that they have to be at the top of their game, & frighten people in the best possible way, plain & simple.
Ergo since they are so good, people are... u guessed it! Scared of them....

PS: I havent had the pleasure of meeting a ghost, so my opinion is not from personal experience but the reputation they have, tells me that they are very effective in scaring people...

well, as you said, the ratio of good ghosts to bad ghosts would b equal BUT i think the one major difference would b ghosts can not b touched. a "bad" person may not act on all of their "bad" thoughts because they know they can be punished (jail and etc)...however, ghosts cant b sentenced jail time and etc, so what would stop a "bad" ghost from acting out all of their evil thoughts?? nothing really....and i think that is what scares most ppl. spirits have more power...for the most part, they can do stuff to you, but you can not retaliate or do much of anything about it

People are always scared of things they don't understand. I myself believe in ghosts and spirits (which are two different things). I believe our souls live on after death of the physical body. I have no fear of them.

Ive seen them and sure it's a little weird at first. I think people are afraid of them because it's the fear of the unknown. "What is this thing and why is it here"? They are nothing to fear, if you get to see one just enjoy it because it's not something everybody is able to do.

The unknown is scary. Seeing a ghost probably seems like a glimpse of death.
