this is in response to elizy....please don't presume you know everything there is to know about disipline, you don't know all the facts or all the circumstances. I just wanted an idea on the best way to lock a dishwasher! oh and by the way have you ever worked with down syndrome kids? I have everyday for the past 2 yrs with my son! DS kids are a lot different than the "normal kid" they require more patience and spanking isn't the answer with him he doesn't understand!
To everyone else who was kind enough to answer my question...Thank You Very Much, your insight is very much appreciated!

I might recommend simply attaching reasonably strong magnets that would add enough resistance to the door that it would be difficult to open.

It would probably be rather cheap, and with some superglue, a rather easy installation.

go to ace hardware and ask for help with a "hasp" and the right size screws.

You'll also need a drill bit to drill pilot holes in the sheet metal.

Use either a plastic childproof lock or a padlock.

Before you start drilling holes in your
dishwasher to place a hasp or hinge,
try screwing a piece of wood or metal
under or on the front of the counter and
swing it down in front of the door. Doesn't
have to be long, just enough to block door.

sorry but discipline is the answer!! not babysitting the dishwasher but discipline....it really works its just that your son has you all figured out!! if you tape it he'll just out smart that too you could probably buy some sort of device to lock it but once again he will sooner or later out smart that as well...not to mention when you use a lock it usually just gives your child something new to play with....discipline!! gate off the kitchen or just discipline his ***! oh and yes i have kids and have worked for years in behavioral health with teens also......
