This is a follow-up to my previous question about trying to open a cd drive door that is stuck with a cd in it. Nothing has worked so far so I removed the CD-R/RW (Sony Model No. CRX216E) drive from the computer. Now I can't figure out how to take the drive apart to get at the CD. Does anybody know?

EUREKA!!! I got it open. Once I got the drive out of the computer I was able to use a screwdrive to press gently outward on the cd drawer while I followed the advice I got about using a paper clip in the pinhole. The drawer opened about 1/8 inch and then I was able to slide it out completely and remove the cd. The only thing I could see was that the cd had a sticky substance around the center hole and perhaps that was preventing drawer from opening?? The drawer slides open and closed easily now but I haven't yet inserted a new cd to see if I can actually use it.

Usually there is a small hole in the front of the drive, on tray that opens. Unbend a paperclip and put it in the hole. That should open the drive without having to take it a part.

Just below the tray that the CD is set in and above the volume dial, there is a small hole. bend a paperclip so that it is straight and gently put it in the hole. When the CD tray pops out, the paper clip will stop. Pull the paperclip out and open the tray the rest of the way. When you push the tray back in, you will feel the tray pop into place.

Don't use a needle or anything sharp.

some drives have a little hole on the front, which you push the end of a paper clip into it and it will unlatch the drive. I don't know about yours, but your manual is in the links.

There is a tiny "eject" hole on the drive...its just small enough for a needle...Push one in and it should pop open.
