Hey folks, I'm trying to write a comedic play (god knows why) and I've decided that I'd like to read a few more plays as research, etc. I'm intimately familiar with all those famous comedic plays that have been made into movies and what not, but what I'm interested in are those unsung plays that theater folks may be aware of but that regular folks like myself don't know about. By that I mean professional plays that I can buy online, but titles that haven't been performed a billion times and made into TV shows and movies like "The Odd Couple," etc.

Can any theater type folks out there recommend any good, funny plays?

Much obliged!

Anton Chekhov wrote many short classic comedies. Try to find good translations. My favorite is the Proposal (aka. Marriage Proposal)

One that was made into a movie, but didn't do well, was 'Mass Appeal'. Great story line & very funny & moving at the same time. I think the aurthor was Bill Wilson, but I maybe wrong on that.
