You don't have to smile, just be civil. You are a professional, so don't let your personal feelings affect your interaction with him (I know that it is a little awkward to act like a robot, but this is business, not fun).

I am pretty good at bull Sh*tting people. Just keep an image of whatever makes you happiest, ie, a lover, family, a really big chocolate cake( thats always good)
hold onto that image and smile at THAT, instead of your boss.
Oh and let EVERYTHING he says go in one ear and out the other.
You'll do fine, remeber this when you feel mad, "hey mr. grumpy gills, you know what you do when life gets you down, just keep swimmin, just keep swimmin, just keep swimmin swimmin swimmin. I love finding Nemo.

it sounds like he doesn't visit often?
if so, then keep in mind that his visit will be brief, and look forward to his departure throughout his visit. that could help keep you smiling.
