Find out where your favorite actors studied and with whom. The people teaching acting are more important than the school.

You do not need a degree in Acting to be an actress or actor. You can act in plays during college and take classes to train. But, also remember that you need something to fall back on...not that you will--but just have a Plan B...if Plan A doesn;t work out or you decide it is too hard a life to act. But, if you have the passion and the desire, go for it.

If you live in a large city, most Universities have a Theater Department. Call the Theater Department of the universities in your city and ask them to send you a brochure about the Theater Department. Do this for each college you want to consider.

It is best to study theater at a college in the city where you live, as you will have the opportunity to peform in professional theater companies. The experience will look good on your resume.

The University of Houston has an excellent theater department that has produced several celebrities. Also, if you want to write Playwright Edward Albee teaches at the University of Houston.

sorry i dont agree with everyone else but you may concider going to a school which is strong in theatre but also strong in another area you enjoy. I have known actors who went to college for engineering, biology, and management, and spent every spare moment focused on theatre. They were far superior than some better actors because the work in both areas was so taxing they were far more focused then anyone else met. Also if the acting doesn't work out, you wont be waiting tables.
