I was told that this law was coming in 2008. Just wondered about the truth of this.

It sure would help if you saw fit to at least identify the country you are located in. Without further information, my best advice is to call your attorney for an opinion.

Good luck with your real estate venture.

There is a new scheme whereby anyone letting out a multiple occupancy house has to register as a landlord/lady with their local council. This is to ensure you are a 'fit person' to rent property and you will keep it to a certain standard. Costs vary depending on how many properties you will be registering. If you let through and agency, I think they technically become the 'landlord/ladies' and they deal with the registration. Scheme has already started, Beware to letting to several individuals tho because this opens a whole kettle of fish regarding additional regulations. This scheme is also being rolled out in Scotland to include ALL leased properties so England will no doubt follow suit

In the UK, you may let without a licence so long as you have valid insurance and can prove that you have installed sufficient safety devices such as; Smoke detector, Fire Blanket and Fire Extinguishers. If you live in the same house, the rules are far more shady as the tenants are merely seen as lodgers. And you can receive a large portion of rent tax free.

You do not need a licence to buy a house or to rent it, not in the UK at least. However, it will be subject to safety regulations

Anyone should be able to purchase a house. Some local jurisdictions may require some permit or something to rent, but I'd think those are rare. Check with your local city hall or whatever it is called.

No. You do not need a license to buy a home or to LEASE one (I think that was your intent). No new laws that I've heard of and I'm in the business.

LET IT WHAT????????? And why would you need a license to buy a house? That makes no sence. No one would buy. I live in N.Y. State, you don't even need a license to sell a house.

yes, you'll have to get a renters license to rent property. But if you were renting it B4 the new law, you can continue without the license. You will have to prove it though.
