I want to move from Illinois to Texas. I have family I can stay with until I get on my feet. I have a Finance degree. Should I just move down there and look for a job (I hate my current job)? Or should I somehow find a job before I move? Any advice is helpful!!

I would at least go with a few staffing agencies so you are actively looking for a job. I wouldn't just move down in hopes of finding one...you probably don't know the area well so it may be hard to find one.

Also, post you resume on Career Builders and Hot Jobs for that area to see if there is a need for an Acct or things like that in the area.

One tip, make sure you spell check your resume if you're interested in relocating..... Attention to detail is very important, even with the small things.

Update your resume and post it on Career Builder and Monster. When you post it, indicate on your resume that you are willing to relocate. Also search these two sites for companies where you would like to move in Texas. Some companies will actually pay for you to relocate. I wouldn't advise moving without a job.

You are better off to have some interviews for positions lined up before relocating. Having family to stay with will definitely help, as long as you keep your stay to a minimum, and are continuously searching for employment while there. It is easier to find leads from a distance through the internet, but you will need to shake hands with someone to actually get a job.

Your best bet is to find a job down there with a company that is willing to pay your relocation. They will also pay for you to fly down to interview. Use online resources such as Monster.com and local Texas job-sites to look for a job. From there, various headhunters will pick up your resume and try to find you a match. Good luck! (I just moved from Nevada to Illinois using the same method and it worked out great!).

I would find a job before you move. You don't know how long it will take before you find a new job. Have you told your friends about relocating to Texas? Maybe they can hook you up with a job there.
