veronica, those are usually the people on welfare. Those are the people who must cash those welfare checks, and need an I.D. to do so.

Interesting question!

In any event, bills requitring photo ID also provide for payment for IDs if people can't afford them.

So it's NOT an issue.

It is obvious to me that the claim of being too poor to get an ID is ridiculous way for certain groups to justify why people should not have to use their identification while voting. What are the 2 things that you are supposed to have when you get a job? Your social security number and a valid ID. Anyone who works needs to have an id. If you are not working, then you are surviving on welfare and therefore, you need to have an id to cash that check! I can’t imagine how anyone could survive without an id, unless they are here illegally and they don't qualified to vote anyway. Every person has certain responsibilities. If they choose to neglect those responsibilities, it is their problem. We are not here to baby-sit lazy free loaders. If they are not responsible enough to get their ID, who to say these people will even show up to vote?

Whip:

State ID's are not free. Check the link below.

Republican mom:

I live in Ga. Jesse Jackson gets on my nerves also by the black man thing. Part of what he is saying is that there are a lot of poor people in rural parts (old, white and black), that do not have access to transportation, or have the ability to obtain the new ID. Whether they are handicapped or whatever. It does put some people at a disadvantage for voting.

It is not a question of welfare. Many in this country are on Social Security or disabled, this is not welfare!! These are people who have learned to pay their rent, utilites, food, transportation and all other needs out of a monthly check of under $800 Dollars. With rent running $400 to $600 a month, and gas and lights almost $200 adding $20 for an ID is out of the question.
Unfortunately, (and this is the democrats problem with the law) most states passed these laws without making provision for free ID's for people who could not afford them!
this becomes a Jim Crow law against the poor!

As to how I know about the dollar amount these people receive, I deal with several elderly people by providing transport for them and often mow there yard, fix their wheelchair ect.

The fix the wheelchair is another issue- medicare payments were cut so that new wheelchairs have to come out of what little they receive!

It is interesting how our system doesn't work. We have to have our birth certificate to start kindergarten. We also have to have our birth certificate to get a driver's license. We have to show ID to write a check, or get a loan, or get a credit card. But the politicians never say a word about this being a hardship on people. But let someone suggest showing an ID to vote, and they are all up in arms about discrimination. Let's face it, it would make it harder for felons and unregistered "inner city" voters to cast their ballots. It seems very funny to me that it only seems to be the Democrats who are against the idea of ID's for voters. They have a reason that they are against it, and it's not about discrimination.

There are some check-cashing establishments that provide their own internal ID's. Can these be used officially at other places? it depends. What upsets me are the ones that claim they so po' but walk around with a cell phone, name brands shoes. It's a matter of priorities.

Who's charging for the ID? Plu-Leeze! You can do better than that in defending no IDs! Are you telling me they don't have an ID to get their welfare check? Or are you just disappointed that your party won't be able to get the illegal and the dead vote this year? Yeah, who's been stealing elections all these years....? Going to be hard to go legit this year, won't it?

The welfare office issues free ID's. What is the problem with this. Maybe if those broke *** people weren't targeted by tobacco companies and state lotteries, the could afford $15 that would be saved by not playing all the triples for a week.

It's funny you should ask that. One of my employees is stuck in a catch 22. His driver's license was revoked for failure to pay child support. With no picture ID he couldn't cash his checks, of course he had no bank account.
He went down to get a state ID and was told he needed to produce his social security card in order to get the ID. Being the disorganized person he is, he had lost his Social Security as well.
So, he trotted down to the federal building to apply for a copy of his social security card, and guess what. You need a copy of your birth certificate and a picture ID in order to get a copy of you social security card.
He has been around and around with this and still has gotten nowhere. His solution to his check cashing problem. Every payday he goes to the bar and gets hammered. They cash his check for him.
So, in answer to your question. It isn't that easy to get an ID for poor people. But most yahoos like him don't vote anyway.

Jessie Jackson trots in and plays the race card whenever a state dares suggest that voters should have to prove who they are in order to vote. They can't afford it - he and other black leaders proclaim. When Georgia tried this he flew down in his private jet to vilify the state legislature calling the initiative another Jim Crowe law. "A blatant attempt to strip the black man of his vote," (I am paraphrasing). Georgia's response? They made state IDs FREE! What's their response then - "In the land of Dixie, they still want blacks to prove they can vote - just another attempt to disenfranchise black voters," (paraphrasing again). If voters have to prove who they are, then the Democrats can't cheat to win! They want to be able to pay people on election day to vote as someone they are not (they did it in Milwaukee and were charged in municipal court for it!). How else can they get their base out to the polls (illegal immigrants, felons, homeless, etc.)
