Do not confuse happiness with either Materialistic things or Contentment. Its also not the ultimate goal of life as it might seem to be. Do not take enlightenment as happiness, because when that will happen you might not agree with the whole notion of being happy.

Happiness or being happy is an emotional phase which can not last forever. It is a part of a spectrum of human emotions that you feel. people define their own measures of being happy. for some it might be all the materialistic things that you can think of, and for others it might be on a spiritual level.

However, it is one of the biggest driving force in human life. It is a sort of bench mark that you have in your mind regarding anything that concerns you the most. But the idea that it is only a phase can upset you a lot. people who are spiritually driven can also take it as the ultimate goal of life. so when you know that it is not going to stay forever, you can get disoriented.

May be true happiness exist in everyday life in small packets of emotions and feeling and we overlook or ignore it in search of a complete state of happiness. If we can rather start excepting happiness as it comes to us and put our mind and spirit to search the ultimate goal then our life can be completely different.

But this of course, is the hardest thing to do... find yourself and your purpose.

Happiness is love, joy, peace, contentment. All of which can be found in knowing Jesus Christ.

Since I have become a christian and followed Christ I have experienced an indescribable happiness. It doesn't mean that hard times don't come around but I always know I can make it through.

It's important that you learn to love yourself. Not to measure your wealth by what others think of you. Get up every morning and say 5 positive things, look and be thankful for little things. It's hard at first but you'll find that you automatically appreciate things.

I hope it helps. Just know that the creator of the earth is watching over you and loves you tenderly.

You'll be in my prayers

Perhaps our constitutional fathers did not get it right when they said that we, as people, have the right to the pursuit of happiness, at least if happiness means what our contemporary society demands: good looks, good income, good friends, peace in the world. Happiness can never find its ultimate fulfillment in anything external. Would one consider Howard Hughes happy - even with his ability to own anything in the world?

Happiness comes when an individual has learned contentment, and contentment comes with purpose and fulfillment. If you feel your life has no ultimate purpose, you will not be content with life. In the biblical book, Ecclesiastes, the writer takes the perspective that you described in your question. Can happiness come from material things? He wrote about pursuing happiness through relationships, sex, wealth, parties, building projects, philosophy, and much more. At the conclusion of each search, he concluded that each was "meaningless." Did he have fun? Sure. Did he feel fulfilled (happy)? No.

I am convinced that happiness results from fulfilling your purpose, and purpose lies in why you are here on earth. If you are here on this planet as a result of an evolutionary accident, then I doubt you can find ultimate fulfillment. But, if you come to the conclusion that you were created for a purpose, that you are the product of a divine will who knows you, loves you, and desires that you become all you can be, then when you enter into a relationship with Him and live out that purpose, you will be happy. I recommend for the light reader, Rick Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life" and if you are a more sophisticated philosophical individual, try John Piper's, "Desiring God."

True happiness is the combination of complete and perfect good. If there were anything missing from it, it would not be complete and if anything was longed for that it didn't contain it wouldn't be perfect.

True happiness is found within you. You're body is the combination of complete parts to a perfect whole to frame. Your heart is the giver of happiness and the mind guides and protects it.

Happiness right now will come from reading this statement by Dan Quayle - "I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people."
Happiness through your life will come from knowing yourself.
Happiness when you die will come from reading the Bible before you die from page 1 thru the end.

Happiness comes from being contented with whatever life situation that you are in. Whether you are rich or poor. It is just accepting the challenges that life throw at you and be bold enough to take on the challenge.

True Happiness comes when you accept Jesus Christ for all that He wants to be in your life and rely on Him daily to help you in everything. Jesus provides the true Joy you need even when times are bad or things just aren't going your way or when things are great. You can not have true happiness until you find love and Joy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ

Ah its sad that some one has to ask this.BUT I GUESS good too .. . Its from inside you.. Your thoughts and feelings.. Usually in your childhood your parents teach you that .. even though the rich grandma buys you stuff .. she never spends a minute with you.. poor grandma buys you or makes you cool stuff and has you over her house every weekend... Its the stuff that people do .. not the stuff they buy for you.. Its actions .. feelings.. sunsets .. baby's being born .. graduating college.. Your parents coming to get you .. when your car breaks down .. ah at 2:30 in the morning after a night of too much fun and not saying anything.. its looking at your husband and knowing that .. even thought he has his faults and he has them .. you still love him. Its about knowing when enough is okay. When you do not need to do anything in the world to make someone like you .. they just do. its a feeling of BEING... okay.

There is no one source. True happiness can come from a lot of different things.

-Love
-Money
-Inner Peace
-Satisfaction, etc.

Some people are inherently happy people, some arent. I know I was born with a bad disposition in life, so it takes a lot for me to be happy.
