my husband and i made a list each, dissed each others names kept the list and brought it out again this time crossing out the "no way "names and keeping the ones we were prepared to live with
we developed a few rules
1:it has to be ok with your surname- as far as im concerned richard bird's mummy was mean-dicky bird?
2:you have to test its rhyming potential in the playground-bart-fart,you know where im going
3:they will be adults -i dont think"eugenie its your round" sounds cool yet somehow" hey alex-its your round" is
4:think of the potential to shorten the name -i loved the name natalie, but the thoughts of the london accent shouting NAT-with no "t" sound at the end made my blood boil
5:if it has an extremely unusual spelling your daughter will have a few tough years at school-i speak from experience
6:be open minded-our first daughter didnt have her name finalised for 3 days-let everyone wait !we were told its customary in many cultures for the baby to kind-of earn their name,we just wanted to see which of our final 2 names fitted her best
my friends had a few names on the way in 2 birthof their daughter but the baby didnt seem like any of the flowery names they both had chosen
and became gracie-not even on their shortlist......
7:if you have pals with young kids listen to what names are being shouted in the park-do you want your daughter to be one of 5 emilys in her class even though its a very lovely name-what are the most popular girls names just now?do you want that?
oh its such fun i would love that time back again, best of luck!

My 2 girls are Indigo and Cyan (pronounced sigh-ann) - both shades of blue. When I was pregnant with Cyan we realised that we had to call her something a bit unusual as we couldn't call her a plain name after Indigo. They both suit their names completely (not that they are blue). Me and husband both love blues music and Indigo was called after an old blues song called Mood Indigo. Alternative name for Cyan was Summer, as she was due in August or Polly as Indigo wanted a sister called Polly just like Angelina Ballerina.

It depends on your taste. Personally, I love polynesian names. I can list friend's names that I find beautiful, if that will help you out. I went with a family name, myself. Traditional names of your ethnicity are always a great way to instill pride in your child. See if these are any help. I'll have the pronunciations in parentheces.

Momilani (mow-mi-lah-nee)
Sherise (share-ees)
Maricela (mar-ee-sel-uh)
Lilianna (lee-lee-on-uh)
Evette
Crystal
Kawohi (kah-whoa-hee)
Elaine
Natalia
Sinai (sin-eye)
Lily
Tomoe (tow-mow-ay)
Kikyo (kee-kee-oh)
Cara
Alliyah
Kiyra (k-eye-ruh)
Vanessa
Shannon
Jasmine

I could go on, but I think you should choose a name that represents or means something important to you, and one she will be proud of. Good luck

we named our daughter now two, ebony louise, which is very pretty but i have a feeling that is going to get more common,
i think in the eighties names like gemma, emma, donna, sarah were really popular so you could bring those back but they are a bit chavy!
lily, rose, evelyn, summer, mae, annie, anna, daisy, lola, lottie, so many pretty names. good luck x
