Though separatist and sentimental movements are generally rooted in underdeveloped/developing countries, we cant say for sure that these things are the bi products of these countries. Eg. Basque in Spain and Ireland.
But everybody will still agree that major problems third world countries face include separatist and sentimental movements.
As for the second question, it is possible. That is what we witness in various instances.

The basis of a S & S movements is violence.
When does a man takes up violence....for his hunger. They say a hungry person see Roti (indian bread) even in the moon. Surely grass root development will help in curbing violence.

The second question is about losing land....if it is in the National interest ...certainly Yes but they should be adequately compensated.
