I watch this show when I happen upon it but one thing I wonder about every time is the apparent unlikeability of leading detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. They just seem to bulldoze their way through investigations, their tone and way of handling things being like a bull in a china shop (with suspects I get that but with witnesses/victims they are hársh). They seem way too fast in jumping to conclusions too.
I understand the need for realism and I know that there are already enough characters in cop shows that bang on about 'detachment etc'. But I do often have the urge to smack them for being so damn unpleasant...
I've been wondering for a while, are they unpleasant characters or is it just me that can't stand Stabler and even Benson?

Sometimes Olivia and Elliot are a little intense, and unpleasant, but i think that they do their job well. I don't think it is just you that feels this way, many people find the two of them arrogant.

I am a Law and Order SVU junkie and I have never seen this. But the way they write the scripts it is obvious that they have left the story-line open to allow for this possibility. Personally, I prefer the intrigue of the police work, the insight of the psychologist and the legal maneuvering to drama in the characters' personal lives. For me, if you want that, stay home during the day and watch All My Children.

I think its just you... SVU is my favorite show and the best of the Law and Order series. Benson and Stabler are the best!! For you Benson fans, She will back on tonights episode!!!

I think it is just you since these 2 characters have been on it since the show premiered. I like this show better than the original Law & Order because the original Law & Order haven't been the same ever since Jerry Orbach's death and his leaving the show before the other spinoff he went to. So, iff you can't stand these 2 characters, stop watching the show.

It must be you. They are to of the best in all of the cops shows. They work well together, and they do a great job of solving the cases they work on. There must be some reason why they irritate you, but, as you can see from the responses, most like them a lot.

I like them a lot. Stabler is very intense, but I sometimes wonder how having a job like that can change a person.

Honey, please. While it's true that they can jump to conclusions too fast sometimes, Stabler and Benson make that show! Can't knock those characters! :) I love 'em and can't wait for Olivia to come back!
