Wow with my son at first I was told to have a full bladder but when some test results came back the Dr order a more thorough ultrasound. I had a full bladder when I got there but when I asked if I really needed to have a full bladder they said no that it isn't needed especially for the new ultrasound machines that hospitals are getting. They also said full bladders are not a must for the older models.

I am going for an ultrasound today to hopefully find out the sex(20 weeks) and they told me to have a full bladder. They didn't tell me what kind of ultrasound machine they are going to be using-I hope I can have a 3D one too. Good Luck!

Yes you need to drink at least 16 to 32 oz of water before you get there. I had a 3D done and still was not clear. Save it for the day of birth make it a special surprise to se eyoru babies face. But yes you need to have your bladder pretty full.

Full bladder shows the lower segment of the uterus, specifically the cervix and tip of placenta(if it is low). If the baby's head is low, the full bladder can push the baby up also, so the face can be seen.

They usually don't do a 3-d unless there is a major abnormality, sorry.

They tell you to have a full bladder for just about any ultrasound procedure.

The fact that they told you not to pee before your appointment doesn't mean you'll get a 3D ultrasound.

My OB has a 3D machine in her office, and everyone gets a 3D ultrasound at 20 weeks or so.

They ask you to drink water for the ultrasound is because the fluid in the bladder creates a "window" for the beam to pass through. (This provides a good medium for sound conduction.) It also serves as a "landmark" for the technician to get their bearings, so to speak. In addition, a full bladder can change the position of the uterus, taking the flexion out of it and pushing it up so it is easier to scan. A full bladder also moves loops of bowel up and out of the way to make the pelvic organs easier to view.

Not everyone does a 3D....you're lucky if you get one. I plan on going to a 4D site and paying the extra money for the enhanced ultrasound.

Congratulations! You are going to love it.

Unfortunately, they really do want your bladder full. That's the most uncomfortable part of the whole thing. At one U/S, I actually had to go drink more and wait before they could get a good image. So drink up!

Make truly particular you drink sufficient water, and also you would possibly want to get large images! I had one,and the in difficulty-free words reason I had one replaced into because they furnish them in my drs workplace,i didnt' have the money to flow pay for one,yet i comprehend that I were given a extra constructive 3D photo than 0.5 of them i have seen, because of ways a lot water I drank! Drink a touch caffeine/juice too, because it receives the child shifting round extra!

They want your bladder full so they can see your cervix clearly. They probably want to measure it. A good length for it to be is 4 cm.
