Mathematics is an exact, absolute science. Its official short form is "Math", I believe Maths is a typographical error.
All other answers are good but for one. If we were to combine all of them and try to come up with single definition, we will not be able to cover it all and do proper deserved justice. We will always leave out some thing.
What is it?
It encompasses various disciplines.
To name a few for the start:
Arithmetic.
Geometry.
Trigonometry.
Algebra.
..........
....
..
It compliments other scientific and liberal arts disciplines. Such as Philosophy and Psychology to Physics and Chemistry....
Without its use in many other disciplines, the advances achieved in those discipline would have been far less and few.
It is used in all aspects of our life, from cradle to grave. Even a child knows the difference between just one candy and wants the other.
You may say world revolves around its use and its use encompasses the universe.

Mathematics (colloquially, maths or math) is the academic discipline that deals with such concepts as quantity, structure, space and change. It evolved, through the use of abstraction and logical reasoning, from counting, calculation, measurement and the study of the shapes and motions of physical objects. Mathematicians explore such concepts, aiming to formulate new conjectures and establish their truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions.
