Why does it seem that black men and women that are Republicans can be viciously attacked with name calling by democrats while the general public and the media appear to have no problem ?

Since Lynn Swann (gubernatorial candidate for Pennsylvania) started his campaign ,I have noticed and heard some harsh and down right cruel comments by many locally well known and prominent democrats ( I know some of these people as I was a democrat for over 20 years) .

IF the media - television or newspapers mentions it at all - it is brushed aside as the person was "misquoted or misspoke" but they never apologize either. Why is this tolerated ?

I don't live with blinders on but I just hadn't noticed it before.

They are hypocrites of the highest order.

They CLAIM to have a problem with racism but they are quick to use racial epithets as their FIRST attack on a black person they disagree with.

Contemptuous!

The answer is obvious, and you probably already know what it is. CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, NPR, New York Times, Washington Post - does the political slant of their reporting lean to the left or right? Obviously, they are all categorized as left-leaning, and therefore, will report news that makes Republicans look bad while ignoring or downplaying news that makes Democrats look bad.

Remember when Robert K. Byrd of West Virginia, a Democrat and former KKK leader, used the "n-word" in an interview? It was in the news for a few hours, then it was gone. George Allen, who was probably speaking gibberish when he used the word "Macaca" or whatever, was thrown against the wall by the liberal press, yet nobody I have spoken to has even heard of the word, and it's unlikely Allen has either. But it doesn't matter - the newsmedia is saturated by liberals, and has been for 40 years now.

That's why when FOXNews came along, it threw the whole establishment into a tizzy because the liberals no longer had a monopoly on the news anymore.

I think that ANYONE who is racist is ignorant and has their head stuck in the mud. They will not make it very far in this world if they do not change their views. It is a shame that some people cannot rise above their upbringing and accept everyone for what they really are: PEOPLE. Maybe these Dems in PA cannot find any other criticisim than this. In that case they need not worry, they will lose anyway.

P.S. The Media is still running scared from the Republicans, only something as horrible as shady campaigning and pedophilia will cross their lips before Nov. 7.

I haven't heard any of that--and I've been surprised that I haven't. Of course, I'm a stay at home mom, so maybe that's why I haven't heard this stuff. I'm not surprised, though. I AM surprised that Blacks aren't supporting him. I've noticed that they tend to support every low-life simply because the low-life is Black (Remember Rodney King?), yet now we have Lynn Swann running for governor and they don't support him simply because he's Republican. What have the Democrats done for them that they throw their support behind each and every Democrat? I don't get it! I do know that I AM supporting him.

Because there is no such thing as "mea culpa" in politics until the person has exhausted all other options. The recent Foley scandal is a good example.

"Let's find someone else to blame for our actions, no matter how far-fetched or ridiculous the connection may be. Anything but admit to being wrong."

Edit:

Incidentally, for those who may have misunderstood me, I was talking about Lynn Swann's critics and those who refuse to apologize or even admit that their comments about him were cruel or inappropriate.

There is some of what you describe, and it IS racial. But it isn't racist.
Basically, given the horrible treatment of people of color in this country, there is an expectation that people of color should want to assist others of color. When a black person - in essence - turns their back on other blacks by embracing politics and a political stance that benefits only very wealthy, white, extremely exclusive groups, that's perceived as being cruel and lacking responsibility. Sort of 'calling them out' for an 'I've got mine, you're on your own' mentality and behavior.
Not a totally unreasonable position for a black person faced with other blacks who are uncaring and unconcerned running for office on politics and principles that are fundamentally and extremely detrimental to blacks.

Because the liberal society will accept everyone as long as they vote democrat. You will be ostracized if you are black, red, yellow, or even gay if you vote republican. This has shown me that the democrats as history has always proved, that they are not the party of equal rights. As people become more educated they see this. That is why it's so important for the democrats to keep dumbing down America and making social welfare more important to minorities than education or economic growth.

The same reason the media call the illegal immigrants undocumented workers instead of criminals...middle-class Americans are tolerating the government stealing our tax dollars to benefit illegals & iraq so why wouldn't we tolerate a little name calling? We do not have the fortitude of our ancestors that protected our country..... shame on us!

Hey, there are black republicans where you live? Don't get me wrong, I am a half black republican, and I love Bush, but all I hear from a majority of African Americans with whom I discuss politics is how they hate Bush and the republican party. What is that about?

Adam's right... all Democrats get weekly emails telling them to call black men and women traitors. Yeah and that's not crude at all.

Look, they're portrayed at that because they're a minority. Frankly I could care less what party someone's in... as long as they're happy, right?
